Be Yourself
Why be yourself? You probably already know the answer, gentle reader? But before diving into this week’s post, here’s a bit about me. And, if you are seeking weekly, colorful paintings in your world (and why not, right?), you can sign up here.
Onward to take a look at this week’s painting.
You Be You
Whether you are the bloom or the little petal that has just fallen off the bloom, you are a one-in-only wonder in this universe. And, that’s just one reason why you might as well be yourself. Here’s the painting for this week if that previous sentence needs a bit of clarification.

This painting is 6×8 inches, painted in acrylics on panel. It will be framed, on my gallery wall and for sale for $100 at the Crossroads Gallery Art Center Opening 2016 Staples Mill Road Richmond VA 23230 on Friday, May 15th.
The title of this painting is a message to us all whether you are 3 or 3×23 and more. It came to me in part due to that feeling of uncertainty about the world these days. Perhaps you, like me, are experiencing this feeling, too? And, add into that the meanderings of my mind in spite of a daily mediation practice.
In other words, this paintings title is a reminder to me as well as you, gentle reader! I came across it in favorite poem entitled “Desiderata” by Max Ehrmann. I’m sure you have read it? Here’s a few snippets from it:
Be yourself…
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Spring is in Full Bloom Too
Spring is being true to itself, too! That is, we are having a beautiful spring here in NC. Despite the drought, there are baby bluebirds in our front yard bluebird house. They are chirping away as the parents dash in blue streaks across our front yard in search of food for them.
We hope to support the bluebirds’ busy feeding schedule by, once again, participating in “No Mow May.” Meaning? Meaning we won’t be mowing the lawn for the entire month of May. This is our third year and Raleigh Parks and Rec participates in this practice too. So, come on, join me/us and put that lawn mower and those leaf blowers away for the month. The birds, bees, and more will be ever so glad you did.
What’s Spring Like in Your World
What about you gentle reader? Do you have tips to share about being true to yourself? And, have you, finally, got signs of spring in your part of the world? Please do share here. I would love to hear from you!

I LOVE THE COLORS IN THIS PAINTING! And the dreamy sense of spring in it as well! Wow, this seems like a new style of painting altogether. I’m probably wrong but I think this is a spirit-lifter in these admittedly challenging times.
We’re in for No Mow May although the locals are campaigning for LOW Mow May as an alternative. (Raise up your lawn mower so it leaves more of the grass for now. An idea.)
Here’s to being forces for good and kind in the world. Your painting and words inspire that too!
TY Beth!
You’re right about the phrasing – we’re doing low mow in words but skipping the mowing for the month of May,too! Woot! xoxo
Lovely painting, Julie, with gorgeous colors. I also loved the sentiment you expressed with a touching poem about being yourself. So important and sometimes so difficult. What a lovely spring you describe as well. Enjoy watching the baby bluebirds and their parents! xoxo
Hi Alexandraaaa, thank you so much! The Bluebirds are about ready to fledge. eeeee! Hope we catch up in the act! xoxo
Lovely, Julie!
