A Sound Convert?

What is a Sound Convert? Oooooh I can’t wait to share with you, gentle reader. Before I share more in this week’s post, here’s a bit about me. And, if you are seeking weekly, colorful paintings in your world (and why not, right?), you can sign up here.

Onward to take a look at this week’s painting.

What is a Sound Convert?

OK well first a confession. Any time I have thought about visiting the ocean, I have been a “sound snob.” What does that mean? I have always been on team “sit (or stay) on the ocean view side.”

For a variety of reasons, I/we decided to skip the ocean view to celebrate my birthday this week. And, so, we booked a sound side place at the beach. Holy Moly my world view has now shifted. Am I a complete sound convert? Hmmm…stay tuned we’ll see. But here’s a view of the a-mazing clouds and sky we can see. This is a 4×6 acrylic painting on cold press paper. It’s a study for a larger painting. Stay tuned on where you might be able to see them.

The other reasons we are loving the sound side:
Birds: we have seen a loon couple, ospreys, the usual gulls (Laughing, Bonapart), Semi-palmated plovers, and more all from our deck
Fish: we have seen dolphins, dolphins, crabs, horseshoe crabs, pin fish and more all from our deck
Kayaking: is so easy here. No schlepping the kayaks to special put-ins. We just head out from the dock and deck here
Painting: the ever changing cloud and sunsets each day have been paint worthy and amazing
Sea view: and because this island is so narrow, we can walk over to the beach in less than 10 minutes for a view of the sandy beach and waves.

Is there a reason to return to a seaside view? Hmmm…I won’t turn you down if you invite me. The coast is a fabulous place. But if I plan to stay for any length of time in this neck of the woods? I think you’ll see me on the sound side.

Stay tuned

Meantime, how are you gentle reader? Do you have a preference for coastal views and visits? Is there a different coastal perspective (other than sound or ocean view) that you might want to share here? If so, please do. I would love to hear from you in the comments below.

  1. Happy Birthday again, Julie! And what a wonderful way to celebrate your special day. I enjoyed reading your discovery of the pleasures of staying on the sound side. I never really gave it much thought but I might now! I also enjoyed the freshness of your painting and especially the juxtaposition of the cool blues of the sky and warm blues of the water. xoxo

    1. Hi Alexandraaa! TY so much. Hope to see you guys on the sound side. ;-D I love your thoughtful, painterly observations of my paintings. xoxo

    1. Hiya Jane, Yesss! I can’t say I have ever seen a loon at Topsail but I have in other places. First we saw the fine fellah. Then, later in the day, we saw it’s companion at the southend. Such a fabulous treat! xoxo

  2. What a moody and textured painting, at least to my eyes. I liked learning about your experience of the sound side. It’s great to have both experiences, yes? I like that you could just easily make your way for the beach view. I’m not sure I have a preference. The wide expansive horizon from the beach here is, well, awesome. And the marsh side? SO much to see as you well know. Glad I don’t have to choose.

    1. Hi Beth, Marsh or seaside, the view sure is awesome…you are lucky to easily see that where you are. Enjoy and sending love your way xoxo

  3. Haha this made me chuckle, as I was a sound side snob the other way round! LOVE the sound side for kayaking and calm swimming when my kids and dogs were growing up. Always loved the ocean side too. LOVELY painting, thank you for sharing! Off to Topsail for my birthday too. : ) Ocean side this time! Guess where?!
