Closer to Fine

Oh what is closer to fine? I will share. But, before reading on, if you want more information about me, check here.

And, if you are seeking weekly, colorful paintings in your inbox (yay!), sign up here. On to this week’s painting.

Chloe is Closer to Fine

Many of you know, David and I are dog lovers and have had BDE (best dog ever) “Chloe” since 2014. Sadly, this week, the adventurous, fluffy, goofy, hiking and walking companion extraordinaire died on Monday. She was suffering so we are relieved that she is not uncomfortable anymore. But, shazam, we are sad and miss her dearly.

Here are some sketches, paintings and pics of this wonderful mutt. Check ’em out and if you are a dog owner/lover, please pat and give a biscuit to yours in Chloe’s honor!

Here are two paintings I did of her. Of course, now, I wish I had done more to capture her personality. These will have to do!

Furry Connector

Chloe had a gift of connecting with all types of people. When we were living in downtown Philadelphia, she, David and I would engage with all types of people. Such as, there was an elegant older woman walking her dog sporting a vest that matched the woman’s overcoat. She stopped and smiled and told us our Chloe was most certainly a Polish Sheepdog. We smiled at her and said “Who knew? She’s a rescue and we could do that test but hadn’t bothered.” She said she was sure of it…no need for the test. We said “Why thank you” and walked on.

Then a few blocks later we passed an older homeless guy. He would smile and pat Chloe. One time, he looked up at us and said, “She looks just like that dog from the musical Annie, doesn’t she?” We, all of us, cracked up laughing and said “Shazam! You’re right!”

Newfoundland Forever

Last year, we were lucky (lucky!!!) to bring her along in our little camper for a month long trek to Newfoundland. She was an intrepid hiker with us even as she was starting to show her age.

So I’m going to sign off here and grab a hanky. We treasure these fuzzy, fabulous memories. We’re grateful that she is no longer suffering. The first pic is at the top of a super steep hike by the Visitor’s Center at Gros Morne National Park in Newfoundland. I’ll sign off with the second pic where she’s staring out at Trout River Pond in Newfoundland.

If you knew Chloeeee, please share your best memories here. If you didn’t know her, know that if you meet a fluffy, friendly four-legged dog who has big brown eyes and a bit of a goofy, stubborn streak, you might be lucky enough to have met her relative.

  1. A wonderful tribute to sweet and goofy Chloe. So many fun walks with her especially exploring Philly during one visit. 💔

    1. TY so much Beth. Gah those fun Philly walks were the best. And, it was so great that you came to help me get over the hiply event. xoxo

  2. Oh Julie, I’m so deeply sorry to hear about Chloe’s passing. I can only imagine the grief you’re experiencing. Chloe was indeed a special girl. I have a lot of good memories of her including at the beach when we still had Josey and the two of them met. I also remember spending time with her – even getting the chance to walk her! – when I visited you in Philadelphia. I was touched to see the photo you took of her lying outside the room I slept in before I had gotten up one morning. I loved snuggling her floofy self. Sending you and David great big hugs and warmest of thoughts. xoxo

    1. Hiya Diana, She sure was a friendly presence. Can’t believe we have to “remember” her instead of “pat pat” her. TY for being in my/our circle of dear friends! xoxo

  4. Julie I am so sorry for the loss of your sweet Chloe. What a special soul. We lost our “Chloe over a year ago and it is a deep loss. They take up so much space in our homes and especially in our hearts. Will be keeping you in my heart.💔💔

  6. Hi Julie,
I keep thinking about you and David and Dear Chloe. What a great dog! From the moment she arrived on your scene she acted as if you were hers. She was so sweet and shaggy and always up for a walk. It was as if she expected to be included in every adventure and intimate detail of your lives… and she was! What a definition of love!❤️

    1. Hi Kathyyyy, Chloeee was the definition of love and, as David would say, endless joy! We miss her dearly but are sharing doggie biscuits widely ;-D xoxo
