Why Puffin Painting

First reason to share why I painted a puffin: they make me smile. And, we were lucky to see these colorful, whacky and underwater flying seabirds during our recent trek to Newfoundland. I figure this puffin portrait might (just might?) make you smile too. And, shazam, I’m feeling a need to have something to smile about these days, you?

We took all kinds of photos of the puffins we saw in Elliston, Newfoundland. But our puffin photos were, let’s just say, subpar. So, we decided to buy professional photos of two of our favorite Newfoundland birds: Puffins and Northern Gannets. Luckily, professional photographer, Sean O’Neill, had some amazing photographs on view and for sale at the gift shop at Cape St. Mary’s Ecological Reserve (one of the places Northern Gannett breed).

Why share all this? Because I made this painting by copying a pro’s photo. And, I want to give him credit. So I emailed him to ask him if he was AOK with my using his photo and sharing my painting. He replied and said “yes.” So yay! Here’s my painting of “Puffin Lovers Unite.”

This is an acrylic and ink painting on a 6×6 inch panel. If you love it and have to have it, it’s yours for $50. Contact me here and I’ll send it your way (free shipping).

There is reason to smile everywhere if looking in my humble opinion. A few this morning: fresh fallen snow outside and the aroma of warming maple syrup inside. 🙂
