This Week’s Painting

It’s persimmon season! And, a few weeks ago, I shared another 12×12 inch persimmon painting. If I had to categorize each: one is quiet and introverted. The other is much more outgoing and shall we say “chatty!”

Here’s this week’s painting that’s 12×12 inches and painted in oils on canvas panel. It’s for sale for $400. Contact me here, if you’re interested in it.

Adventure in Paint

I loved working on the different patterns in this painting. And, I had lots of conversations in my mind about which pattern to emphasize. I have painted the teal blue-ish green pattern in the past (see?). And, so I ultimately decided to diminish the impact of that pattern by thinking of it in a shimmering mist. The yellow pattern was fun to paint because it seemed to compliment the persimmon. Other than that I let the whole thing flow.

Other News

Otherwise, several of you have been asking me about our divine doggie, Chloe. She is recovering really well from major surgery nearly 2 weeks ago. Whew! Her walks start off with lots of pep in her step and then slow wayyyy down. But that’s OK. She’s still on the mend. And we are so grateful that all the tests show she is in the clear. Yay!

How About You

What’s happening in your world, gentle reader? Are you ready for next week? Have you gotten all of your shopping and cooking and preparation done? I am proud to say I have mailed (and handwritten…I know…nuts!!!) all of my Holiday Cards. If you would like a Holiday Card from me, please send me your address here and I’ll send you one.

Enjoy the hustle and bustle of the season and share what you anticipate in the days ahead in the comments below!

  1. So pretty: feel like I could touch the fabric!
No bustle here. Just enjoying the serenity of this Advent. Be merry!

  2. This painting is somehow different – such variety and richness and I do love the way the yellow fabric jumps out and makes the persimmon shine. Just beautiful.

    1. Hi Beth, TY! I loved working on this one. Then had to put it it “time out” for a bit. And, then revisited it and adjusted the yellow pattern and vroom – it flowed. Glad you enjoyed it. ;-D

  3. Lovely, Julie! I really like how you captured the patterns with the subtle changes in value. Not an easy feat. Bravo! Also, you created such wonderful depth in the painting, too. I can feel the persimmon nicely nestled back there while peeking out at the same time. xoxo

    1. Hi Alexandra, thank youuuu! Lately I have been thinking about the space between my eyes and whatever I’m painting. There’s a shimmering effect that happens with these patterns even if they aren’t far away (especially if I’m squinting to work on values). So thank you for noticing the depth of the placement of the persimmon. xoxo back to youuu
