Painting of Breath of Dusk

How is it that moments like this last seconds! Using a photo as a prompt and lots of imagination, this painting is a view from our road trip last year. We stood and watched the fantastic purple clouds move and divide over our heads. The sun kept dappling different parts of the sky, water and clouds with brilliant oranges, reds and pinks as it set.

It felt as if night was breathing in and light was exhaling. Hence the name. It’s 12×16 painted in canvas and framed in a natural wood frame. Yes it’s for sale for $500. Contact me here to make it yours.

Hello 2026

This and several other paintings in progress are strides towards painting larger paintings this year. Invoking the mantra I used when I was marathon training and at art school: “I think I can I think I can” from that fabulous children’s story “The Little Engine that Could.”

Have you decided to nudge yourself to try something new or scary or challenging? If so, please do share. I would love to hear and be inspired by you here and in the comments below.

  1. To my non-painter eyes, this is a STUNNING painting, Julie! I kept blowing up the image because it drew me in. It holds mystery and wonder at the same time. I think I could stare at it for hours without stopping! Here’s to more of this in 2026!

  2. Hi Julie,
Your words pair beautifully with your painting. How wonderful to capture the moment of awe with both language and paint!
