Beach Nocturne

This week I’m excited to share a painting entitled “Beach Nocturne.” And, there’s so much more news, too. But before I share more I’d like to welcome you here. Where’s “here?” How about a quick back story?

I love to paint. Where? Well, I paint at my home studio, outdoors and on the road. On the road? Yes! For several months each year, we tow a small teardrop camper (and my mobile painting studio). I bring my paints and sketch and paint as we travel, hike and trek. This year, we made it as far north as (Raleigh!) Newfoundland. Now we are back in Raleigh, North Carolina.

No matter where we are, each week I share a painting, sketch or study. My hope is that what I draw or paint might delight and inspire you. Sign up here to receive these colorful painting posts in your inbox.

Closer to Home

This week’s painting is a fleeting memory of the night sky and our view from a sweet motel we visit each year at Topsail Beach. Here’s the image which is 6×6 inches, painted in oils on Arches Oil paper.

I love sharing this image now. Why? Because I always feel a tug to go to this place this time of year. It’s quieter and beautiful. So, even though I can’t be there in person, I can imagine the view, sounds and smells with this series of paintings.

Studio Sale Season

One of the reasons I can’t escape to the beach is because it’s studio sale season. I’m excited to share that I’ll be opening my studio and turning it into a tiny but mighty gallery soon.

When?

If you live in or near Raleigh, NC plan to visit my studio during either (or both!) days of the Forest Park Art Walk on Saturday, November 15 and Sunday, November 16 from 1:00PM to 5:00PM. To further entice you to pop by, I’m excited to share that three other wonderful artists will be showing their work here in my studio, too.

Julia Einstein, Jean Grunewald and Dawn Marie Rozzo will each have artwork on view and for sale along side my paintings. For (beautiful!) images of their artwork that will be available including prices, check out this link.

I hope you can stop by and say ‘hi!’

Art Pals with Studio News

If you happen to be traveling to Virginia this weekend, you are in luck! There are two wonderful artists who you absolutely must see.

In Alexandria VA, pop by the Creme de la Creme Boutique located at 907 King Street Alexandria VA 22314 (aka Old Town) from 1:00PM to 5:00PM this Saturday. Liz Floyd will have her paper goods, 2026 calendars, greeting cards, fine art prints and original watercolors for sale. See an example of one of her original watercolors. Bonus, for each item you buy as a gift, she will watercolor a custom gift tag!

Another Art Pal Studio Tour

If you are getting away to Washington, VA this weekend, then (you lucky duck) you get to see the Fall Art Tour there. Be sure to visit Kathy Waller Stewart‘s beautiful studio on the tour. Here’s one of her gorgeous and colorful paintings. It’s called “After Breakfast” is 12 x 12 inches and painted in oils on panel.

More NC Studio Tours

I would be totally negligent if I didn’t mention the Orange County Artist Guild happening this weekend and next. Becky Broun‘s handmade books are exquisite and worth a look. And Ronan Peterson’s pottery is so delightful. Lastly, check out Steven Silverleaf‘s quirky and expressive paintings.

See What I Mean

When I started off this post a few paragraphs back, I mentioned that it’s studio sale season. See what I mean? How about you gentle reader? Have you got art news to share from your part of the world? If so, please share. I would love to hear from you.

      xoxo

  2. I forgot to hit “submit” on this last week!?! The thing I like about your painting is the shades of blue and blue-green and the sense of motion. I understand it’s your special beach but there’s a universal beach sense of it that I like a lot!
