Memories in Bloom

What do I mean by memories in bloom? Stay tuned gentle reader. But first, if you are new here and seeking weekly, colorful paintings in your world (and why not, right?), you can sign up here.

Onward to take a look at this week’s paintings.

Tail End of Travel

We are at the tail end of this year’s road trip north. We left from Raleigh, NC on August 20th. Since then we have traveled with our little camper, car and kayaks in tow. Where? We have seen the beautiful skies and mountains of the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. And, we visited a super family friendly campsite just across the Pennsylvania / New York border. Then onward to visit family and friends in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

Next? We camped at Wolfe’s Neck Campground in Freeport Maine. It’s the only place where I could see the sunrise to the east and the moon in the west; at the same time! Each appearing above the treeline at the campground.

From there we camped in Stonington, Maine. This is my first year joining David sea kayaking. And, shazam it was a blast.

In last week’s post, I shared a view of the beautiful front porch of our friends in Maine. It’s a painter’s paradise. This past week, we have been with our dear friends, Laura and Paul, who now live near Halifax, Nova Scotia.

We are gearing up to return to North Carolina which means I’ll be showing work in Richmond, VA soon. Before I share those details. Here are a few paintings from the beautiful garden at Wolfe’s Neck Campground.

Painting Details

Each of these paintings remind me of this trip. The cone flowers were in full bloom at Wolfe’s Neck campground. And, this inspires me because they were blooming in spite of a significant drought in Maine. Color and beauty in the midst of a dusty brown drought. Maybe a metaphor for colorfully keeping at it when all seems dreary and dark, eh? (Me practicing Canadian, eh? HA HA).

Oh I forgot to share the details! These are pen ink and gouache paintings on 4 inch by 6 inch watercolor paper. They will be dressed up for my studio sale later this fall.

Show Details

I will be zipping up to Richmond, Virginia for the Crossroads Art Center exhibition on Friday, September 18th from 5:00PM to 8:00PM. This fantastic (HUGE) art center is located at 2016 Staples Mill Road Richmond, Virginia.

If you will be in the area, stop by and say ‘hi!’ I will be painting at my gallery wall there and also doing an art giveaway at 7:00PM that evening. What does that mean? Stop by and fill out your name, email and phone number and pop it in the box at my wall. I’ll pull a winner’s name and s/he/they will choose a painting from several on view.

Here’s a colorful description of all the beautiful happenings (fashion as art, paintings, photography, sculpture, jewelry, pottery and more!)

But Wait There’s More

After I return from Richmond, VA this weekend, I’ll be at Gallery 20 in downtown Raleigh, NC on Tuesday, September 22 from 1:00PM to 4:00PM.

Gentle reminder, gentle reader! Here’s another article showing evidence that looking at original art is good for your health and well-being. Bonus! I’ll be painting while I’m in the gallery next Tuesday. And, if you pop by and enter your name, email and phone number on a piece o’ paper, I’ll enter said slip o’ paper into a box for an art give away. There will be a few of my paintings on view at the glass table in the gallery. The winner will choose which painting they’d like to have in their home or office. I’ll aim to do the drawing for the winner at or around 3:00PM Tuesday.

Whoops! Where? Gallery 20 is located at 20 Glenwood Avenue Raleigh, NC 27603. When? Tuesday, September 22, 2026 from 1:00PM to 4:00PM. I look forward to seeing you there.
