Moonrise

Why moonrise you ask? I am excited to share and other big news here today! But, before reading on, if you want more information about me, check here.

And, if you are seeking weekly, colorful paintings in your inbox (yay!), sign up here. On to this week’s painting.

Collective Creation

This week’s painting is the biggest painting I’ve ever made. And, it’s a collective creation of color sketches from the road, studies from my imagination and more. I am also calling this a collective creation because I got some really helpful advice along the way to paint this one. I reached out to a local, lovely painter named Monica Linares who teaches a class called Happy Habits.

Mind you, I didn’t need help with the practice of painting frequently. I love to paint. But I have had trouble finishing larger paintings. Thanks to Linares’ class earlier this year, I started doing smaller studies of “problem areas” in many of the large paintings I’m painting these days. And, I found that these studies, some of which I shared last week, really really helped me gain confidence to approach this week’s larger painting. So thank you Monica!

Big Painting and Big News

Here’s this week’s painting. It’s called “Moonrise” and is four feet wide and two feet tall. It’s painted in oils on a gallery-wrapped canvas. Meaning? That means it’s ready to hang without a frame if you choose.

I’m excited to share that this painting is for sale for $1000 and will be on view at Crossroads Art Center in Richmond Virginia as of March 1.

Art Opening Invitation

You are invited to attend Crossroads Art Opening on Friday, March 20 from 5PM to 8PM. I’ll be there, showing this and many other paintings and would love to see you!

And, if you live in or near Raleigh, North Carolina I will also have work on view on Sunday, April 12th at the Forest Park Art Show. Remember, looking at art is good for you, so stop on by if you can. It sure would be fun to say hello.

How Are You

What’s happening in your world, gentle reader? Have you figured out a new way to solve a pesky creative problem? Or maybe you have some big news you’d like to share too? Either, please share! It will be great to hear from you.

  1. Hello, my lovely friend, oh I like this a lot. The colors, the undulating surf where it meets the sand, the sheer size, 4′ x 2′ my goodness! Congratulations, it is full of emotion.

  2. Bigger is beautiful, Julie! The colors are luscious and the painting takes me right to the beach here. I think this is one of my favorites of yours! Wish I had a spare 1K hanging around. Wish I could come to Richmond to see it in person. Love your courage at stepping into larger paintings.

    1. Hiya Beth, Thank you so much on all fronts (it is scary to do these bigger paintings so thanks for suggesting courage in the midst of it all). xoxo
