Rhythm in red & green & glass
How is there rhythm in red & green & glass? I can’t wait to share. But, before reading on, if you want more information about me, check here.
And, if you think you would like weekly colorful paintings in your inbox (yay!), sign up here. On to this week’s painting.
The Painting
Here’s this week’s painting called “Rhythm in red & green & glass.” It’s 6×8 inches and painted in oils on panel.

This was a blast to paint. Why? I wish I could clearly say way. Mostly, I love the colors in this set up, for instance. And, I love the way the light bounces off of the glass ,the fabric underneath and the green leaves.
Since we’re headed towards Valentine’s Day this weekend, I like the way there’s a smidge of red right smack in the middle of the painting. I have found a sa-weet gold frame for this size painting. So, as soon as it’s dry, I’ll varnish and frame it. It is for sale for $100 plus NC sales tax, of course. Free shipping! Contact me here if you’d like it.
Confession
I borrowed the idea for the name for this painting after finishing a fantastic, short, beautiful book about Edouard Vuillard. The book is entitled “Edouard Vuillard: The Poetry of Everyday.” In this beautiful, small book there is a description of Vuillard’s painting called “The Candlestick.” You can see the painting here.

But the author’s description on page 26 of the book is as beautiful as the painting:
But one assumes it was the cobalt blue panel to upper right that first attracted him (Vuillard) – a patch of wallpaper imitating moire damask edged with a black frieze – and the way it rhymes with the small cobalt blue object on the table.
Ooooh la la I loved reading about the blue object rhyming with the blue wall paper. What does that mean? It means, I too, can have two colors rhyme in a painting. Right? And then, what does that mean? It means, I see that rhyme creates rhythm and hence the name of this painting.

Oo la la this painting is wonderful! I love the combo of the red, green and blue plus the glass effect. Seems as if this would be technically tricky to capture that “sense of glass” wouldn’t it? A good frame to top it all off? Perfect.
Hi Beth, TY so much for noticing the color combinations in this painting. Glass is a fun problem to solve in a painting, too. xoxo
I really like the movement in this painting.
Hi Dawn, TY so much! There is some moving and shaking happening here. ;-D
Thanks, Julie, for sharing this inspiring painting! I love the glass popping off the screen when I squint my eyes. lovely colors.
Hi Denise, Sure thing. This was a fun one to paint…just seemed to flow!
