Green Sky

Where can you see a green sky? Oh I can’t wait to share. But, before reading on, if you want more information about me, check here.

Where is a Green Sky

Short (smart aleck-y ;-D) answer? I (and maybe you too?) look for fabulous sky colors, including green, where ever I go. And, then there are painters throughout history who have made this choice too. Such as? Well, check out Emil Carlsen‘s beautiful still life and landscape paintings. There are some wonderful green(ish) skies there.

Combine Carlsen with our recent road trips up the East Coast all the way to Newfoundland, and – whew – so many sky colors percolate in my mind. Here’s this week’s painting. It’s 6×6 inches, painted in oils on panel. It will be framed and ready to hang and for sale for $50 at this spring’s Forest Park Art Show. Click that link or check this post for all the details.

  1. Beautiful painting, Julie! I really like the depth you created with the varying saturations. It’s nice to see the green sky on these gray, dreary days. Green skies make me think of the ones I see just before a thunderstorm. Wild!
I also enjoyed learning about Emil Carlsen. I just looked him up. What a talent!
    xxoo

    1. Thank you Alexandra! I love knowing that green skies are a thing for you and remind you of thunderstorms!!! Yes Carlsen is a wonderful painter, isn’t he? xoxo

  2. Julie…. LOVE this paintings and the colors you have chosen. I’m always amazed that just the hint of warmth in the sky can balance the warm earth below. Kathy

    1. Hi Kathyyyyy, TY…such a lovely observation on your part. I love that combination of warms against the cool ocean and clouds tooooo! xoxo

  3. I need to look for green skies! I see how there could be green in the sky but not sure I’ve ever noticed it. Love being on the hunt for green in the sky. (Although in OK that meant trouble was brewing in the form of a tornado. So guess I HAVE seen a green sky!) This painting is very alive to me without the threat of tornadoes! Love it.

    1. Hi Beth, There’s the whole “green flash” experience just before the sun dips below the horizon. I bet we could see that at Plum Island next time I’m there? I bet you did see green skies before tornadoes in OK. Yipes!!! TY for taking time to look and comment here! xoxo
