Crystal Blue Persuasion
This week’s painting is entitled “Crystal Blue Persuasion.” Before I share more I’d like to welcome you here. Where’s “here?” How about a quick back story?
I love to paint. Where? Well, I paint at my home studio, outdoors and on the road. On the road? Yes! For several months each year, we tow a small teardrop camper (and my mobile painting studio). I bring my paints and sketch and paint as we travel, hike and trek. This year, we made it as far north as (Raleigh!) Newfoundland. Now we are back in Raleigh, North Carolina.
No matter where we are, each week I share a painting, sketch or study. My hope is that what I draw or paint might delight and inspire you. Sign up here to receive these colorful painting posts in your inbox.
The Setting
I painted the fab pink Gomphrena Globosa blooms in my studio. The rest of the painting including the window appeared in my mind as I painted. How did I choose the painting title aka “Crystal Blue Persuasion?” It’s a song from my idyllic childhood and a reference to the good news of this week. Have a listen here. If you grew up with this song playing on the radio, I hope you find your toes tapping.
And, I hope this little 6×8 inch painting is dry by the time the Forest Park Art Walk (aka Home Studio Sale) rolls around in 10 days. Why?
There are so many layers of luscious paint on this panel that it’s going to take awhile to dry. Here’s a larger image of it.

Gotta say it was so much fun to paint this one. If you can, come by and see it in person.
Forest Park Art Walk
How can you can see it in person? You’re invited to the Forest Park Art Walk. 5 other neighbors (Saturday) and 10 other neighbors and kids (Sunday) will open their studios, too.
I’ll be open both days and will have artwork along with these wonderful artists Julia Einstein, Jean Grunewald and Dawn Marie Rozzo. The sale is at my home studio: 310 E Forest Drive in Raleigh, NC. Mark your calendar for Saturday, November 15 and Sunday, November 16 from 1:00PM to 5:00PM both days.
Here’s a visual version of the event

We hope you kick off your holiday shopping with some of our affordable, one of a kind, colorful and original paintings. And, even if you decide to pop by so you can simply look at the art (and enjoy some brownies), remember looking at art is so good for you. So plan to come by and say ‘hi!’

AWESOME painting, Julie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love the vase….. always liked painting backlit images……
TY Kathyyyyyyy!!! xoxo
Seems you are on an “amazing blue” tour with your paintings because this week’s also has such a fabulous range of blues – some hiding among the other colors and some swirling around the painting over all. And the shape of that vase is so distinctive to me. A painting to be stared at happily for hours.
And it IS a crystal blue persuasion kind of day! 🙂
Hiya Beth, Blue is definitely appearing in the mix these days. And, part of it is a new blue I learned about…Sevres Blue is just so clear and sassy!!! TY for looking and seeing the range of blues here xoxox
Crystal Blue Persuasions- a happy flash from the past. The back lighting on the vase is striking Julie . I can tell you had fun painting this.
Good luck with the Studio tour and sale. If I:lived closer I’d be there!
Isn’t that song a super cool blast from the past, Kathy? Glad you noticed the backlighting of the painting…of course you would as a painter. yourself! I sure wish you lived closer toooo! xooxoxo
Beautiful! love the caribe blue among the flower stems and the luscious and weighty balance of the vase.
Hi Denise, Yay! TY so much dear friend. Great to hear from youuu xoxo
