Summer’s Over
Boo hoo summer’s over! Well, I guess that helps you see how I feel about that, eh? Before I continue I’d like to welcome you here. Meaning? Well, here goes.
I love to paint. For several months each year, we tow a small teardrop camper (and my mobile studio). I bring my paints and sketch and paint as we travel and trek. This year, we made it as far north as Newfoundland. Now we are back in Raleigh, North Carolina.
No matter where we are, each week I share a painting, sketch or study. My hope is that what I draw or paint might delight and inspire you. Sign up here to receive these colorful painting posts in your inbox.
The Setting
The setting for this week’s painting is partly a real place and partly my imagination. So, I’ll say the beach at Topsail Island is the place that inspired this painting. That means I didn’t paint this painting while at Topsail. However, I have been going there for years in July. And, I can easily imagine the (mostly) gentle waves and the big clouds on the horizon.
Summer’s Over Painting
Here’s this week’s painting! It’s 6×8 inches, painted in oils on Ampersand Panel. If you think this painting might help you hang onto summer a bit longer, it’s for sale for $130 + 7.25% NC Sales Tax + Free Shipping = $139.43. Here’s the link to pay and make it yours!

Artist Introduction
Before I sign off, I want to introduce you to an American artist named Peter Van Dyck. I listened to him on the Painting Insights Podcast. Firstly, his paintings are absolutely amazing (to me). I wish I could put into words what I experience when looking at them. And, I haven’t even seen his paintings in real life. Secondly, he offers candid insight into the realities of life as a painter. I really enjoyed listening to this at the end of a day packed with lots of painting here in the studiooo.
How Are You
Have you noticed the change of season? Do you have an inspiring artist you’ve recently discovered? If so, please do tell. I would love to hear from you in the comments below.

This beach painting is terrific! I love the sandy part and the sense of distance you provide. Guess it’s the colors and textures as well. A beauty!
Hiya Beth!
TY and I love that you see the distance, colors, and textures. Yay xoxo
I love how you captured the wave, Julie! You can feel its crest and where it falls away. Lovely palette, too! I also enjoyed looking at Peter Van Dyke’s website. I had never heard of him and really like his work. Will listen to the interview! xoxo
Hi Alexandra, Ooohh…thank you for noticing that wave. Been doing some wave studies and sketches and learning their structure. Enjoy that PVD podcast. It’s one I’m going to listen to more than once! Paint on dear friend!!! xoxo
