Painter | Paddler | Bird Eavesdropper
Julie Dyer Holmes is a classically trained painter based in Raleigh, NC — with a second studio on the road: a tiny camper named Lola. From Lola, Holmes captures delightful, painterly moments outdoors.
Her travels and paintings trace the clouds and coast of North Carolina and then north through New England, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland. On the road, she paints small paintings that, when framed, offer visual treasures of her trips. They also help Julie create larger paintings from memory in her home studio.
When she’s not wielding a brush, Julie enjoys the scenes she paints. She hikes trails, paddles quiet waterways in handcrafted wooden sea kayaks built by her husband David, and camps under starry skies. A bonafide bird nerd, she can stop mid-stroke at the flash of a wing or the lilt of a song — her ears are as tuned for bird song as her eye for color.
Home is wherever the painting, paddling, and bird calls beckon. That means Julie’s devoted painting habit carries on whether she’s on the road or at home.
